Inside the cottages are vaulted ceilings, sturdy wooden furnishing and floors and marble bathrooms that come with separate steam showers and deep soak bathtubs.Īesthetic-wise, all of the accommodation types are similarly appointed with classically Southern design with modern comforts. The latter provides ample private outdoor space above the bluff, and allow for front-row views of river life. Some cottages face the oak-dotted forest, others face the lagoon, but the prime addresses face the May River (River View Cottages). The cottages are the bucolic, whitewashed homes you’d expect in the Deep South, fitted with screen porches and working gas fireplaces. But for the ultimate and most private experience, their standalone cottages are highly recommended. The main inn, housing the reception, spa, library, and the Octagon restaurant overlooking the lagoon, has rooms and suites and is the most convenient option for accessing most of Montage’s facilities. (Photo courtesy of Montage Palmetto Bluff) Its River View Cottages are the way to go Getting around and exploring the greater resort’s endless winding paths and sites such as its equestrian center, shooting ranges and multi-sport racquet club is made easier with Montage’s transport options: take the complimentary guest bicycles, call for a shuttle pick-up, rent a golf cart or reserve a joyride in a Cadillac within or outside of the property, exclusive to Montage guests. Though there have been no incident reports, it’s still advised to keep an eye peeled, especially with children in tow. Be aware, though, that alligators are present in the resort’s freshwater bodies, such as the main lagoon. Several species of birds (including bald eagles) reside here, as do deer and countless other animals, plus bottlenose dolphins in the river.
